The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese national universities as Undergraduate Students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program as follows.
1. Definition of “Undergraduate Students”
Those who are enrolled in an undergraduate course at a university, or who are receiving preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects prior to placement at the university.

3.Qualifications
Applicants must satisfy the following qualifications. For more details, be sure to read the Application Guidelines before applying
- Nepali nationals
- Born on or after April 2nd, 2001.
- Have completed 12-years of schooling in countries other than Japan
- Have secured 75% marks (CGPA 3.5) for Natural Sciences and 65% (CGPA 2.9) for Humanities and Social Sciences in average in SEE and plus two exams.

5.Terms of Scholarship
Five years (seven years for medical/veterinary) from April 2026 to March 2031, including one-year preparatory education in Japanese language and other subjects.
6.Language
The university will give all classes in Japanese. Therefore, applicants must be willing to learn Japanese.

Please send the digitally filled or scanned documents listed below to education@km.mofa.go.jp by June 15th 24:00 (NST), 2025 at the latest. Applications arriving after the deadline will not be accepted.
* Please note that we do not send a receipt email. Only the qualified applicants (those who submit all required documents satisfy all qualifications) will be notified of their examination number by June 23rd.

- Academic Transcript (Attested copies (by Notary Public) of mark-sheets of SEE and plus2 (and Bachlor, if you have enrolled in or completed)
- Certificate of graduation or degree (Attested copies (by Notary Public) of certificates of SEE and plus2 (and Bachlor, if you have completed)
- Recommendation Letter from a class teacher or principal of last school attendede.
- Certificate of enrollment (Only if you have enrolled in a university).
- Certificate of university enrollment qualification examination (Only if you passed the university enrollment qualification examination.)
- Certificate of Language Proficiency (Only if you have documents attesting to competency in Japanese or English.)
- Attested Copy (by Notary Public) of Nepali citizenship certificate
- Please make sure that attachments for the email should be below 10MB, otherwise we cannot receive.
- Please use “[MEXT: undergraduate] Surname_Givenname_Middlename” as a title of your submission email.
- Applicants need to keep the original of your application documents. You will be asked to submit them at the interview.
